League Integrity Policy
Purpose
Urban Rec is committed to providing fair, balanced and enjoyable competitions for all participants.
This policy outlines how Urban Rec manages league standings, team placement, competition structure and player eligibility to maintain the integrity of our leagues.
While we aim to create competitive games, Urban Rec is a social sports club first. Decisions made under this policy will prioritise fairness, participation, safety and overall member experience.
No Finals
Urban Rec does not generally run finals series or playoff matches.
League winners are determined by their performance across the entire season rather than a single elimination game.
Every game contributes equally to a team's overall success, rewarding consistency throughout the season and reducing the incentive for teams to recruit additional players solely for finals matches.
Standings & League Winners
League standings are determined using a win percentage system.
This means teams are ranked based on the percentage of games won rather than total points accumulated.
This approach allows teams that may have played fewer games due to byes, weather cancellations or late entry to be assessed fairly.
Where two or more teams finish with the same win percentage, Fun Points will be used as the first tie-breaker.
The team with the higher Fun Point total will be ranked above the other team.
Division Placement & Transfers
Urban Rec aims to place teams into the most appropriate division based on the information available at the time of registration.
However, skill levels can be difficult to assess before a season begins.
If a team believes they have been placed in the wrong division, they should contact Urban Rec as soon as possible.
Where possible, Urban Rec may arrange a transfer to a more suitable division, league, venue or competition.
Transfers are subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed.
Requests to change divisions do not automatically entitle a team or participant to a refund.
Please refer to the Refund, Credit & Withdrawal Policy for information regarding transfers, credits and refunds.
Urban Rec's Right to Manage Competitions
To maintain competitive balance and member experience, Urban Rec reserves the right to move teams between divisions, reseed competitions, or adjust league structures before, during or between seasons.
Urban Rec will consult with affected teams before making any changes involving a different venue or playing night.
Competitive Balance
Where significant differences in skill level are impacting league quality, Urban Rec may take steps to improve competition balance.
This may include:
- Reseeding divisions.
- Moving teams between divisions.
- Adjusting competition structures.
- Creating new divisions.
- Combining divisions where numbers require.
The goal of these changes is to create enjoyable and competitive games for all participants.
Player Eligibility & Substitutes
All teams and players must comply with the Player Eligibility & Substitutes Policy.
Teams should not use players in a manner that provides an unfair competitive advantage or undermines league integrity.
Borrowing players from teams within the same competition may result in a forfeit unless otherwise agreed in accordance with the Player Eligibility & Substitutes Policy.
Unsporting Conduct
Urban Rec reserves the right to investigate and take action where teams or participants deliberately attempt to manipulate competition outcomes.
Examples may include:
- Deliberately fielding ineligible players.
- Providing misleading information about player eligibility.
- Deliberately losing games to influence standings.
- Circumventing substitute player rules.
- Any conduct deemed inconsistent with the spirit of fair competition.
Sanctions may include forfeits, loss of standings points, removal from a competition, suspension or other disciplinary action.
Competition Structure
Urban Rec reserves the right to modify league formats where reasonably required for operational, scheduling or participation reasons.
This may include:
- Adjusting season lengths.
- Introducing byes.
- Modifying schedules.
- Combining competitions.
- Altering division structures.
Any changes will be made with consideration for fairness, league quality and participant experience.
