👥 How many players do we need to play?
Each team plays with two players on the court. You must have at least two registered players, but it is a good idea to have three or more in case someone cannot make it.

🔄 Can we sub players during the game?
Yes, you can sub in a player at any time between rallies. Subs must have an Urban Rec account and have signed the current waiver.

How long are the games?
Games are played over a 45 minute time slot. You should be able to fit in at least three full games during that time.

✂️ How do we decide who serves first?
Play scissors paper rock. The winner can choose whether to serve or receive, or which side to start on. The first serving team starts with their second server.

🎯 How does scoring work?
Only the serving team can win points. Games are usually played to eleven, and you must win by two. The score is called out as server score, receiver score, and server number.

🏁 How does serving work?
The server stands on the right side and hits underhand across the court. The serve must land outside the kitchen. Both feet must stay behind the baseline, and you only get one attempt. Say the full score before serving.

🔁 What is the double bounce rule?
When the ball is served, the receiving team must let it bounce once before returning it. Then the serving team must also let it bounce before hitting it. After that, the ball can be volleyed or played off the bounce.

🚫 What is the kitchen and what are the rules?
The kitchen is a two metre area on both sides of the net. You cannot volley the ball while standing in or touching this zone. If you hit a volley and then step into the kitchen, it is still a fault. You can enter the kitchen only to play a ball that has bounced.

📏 Are line calls in or out?
If the ball touches any line, it is in, except for the kitchen line on a serve. If the serve touches the kitchen line, it is a fault.

🛑 What are the most common faults?
• Serving into the wrong area
• Volleying in the kitchen
• Hitting the ball out or into the net
• Volleying before both bounces happen
• Letting the ball bounce twice
• Touching the net
• Violating any service rule
• The ball hitting a player or object before bouncing
